The knowledge of this was one of the main props of the Social Democrat argument in the 1920s-1930s, for example in the future minister of finance Ernst Wigforss' legendary pamphlet Can we afford working, before the victorious election in 1932.

I ett litet samhälle räcker förtroendet (om du har nåt) och räntan behövs inte. I ett större samhälle, utan förtroende, blir räntan hög.
Jo men staten skapar de pengar den betalar lån liksom de pengar den betalar ränta med. Vi vanliga människor är beroende av att någon annan eller vi lånat mer för att penningmängden ska öka så vi kan betala igen räntan.
